The Korean artist Woo Hannah has created a large-scale set up for Frieze Seoul, after being named the winner of the inaugural Artist Award.
Her piece, titled The Nice Ballroom, is suspended from the ceiling of the Coex exhibition centre. The draped materials evoke the form of girls’s breasts; the work is a part of a sequence known as Milk and Honey, which represents the totally different phases of a ladies’s physique throughout breastfeeding.

Mirroring related tasks on the different Frieze festivals, the award is meant to offer “invaluable assist and vital worldwide visibility for an artist within the early phases of their profession”, says the director of Frieze Seoul, Patrick Lee. “The jury strongly endorsed Woo Hannah for her charming material installations, which thoughtfully look at femininity and invert the traditions of sculpture.”
Woo Hannah was born in Daejeon in 1988 and studied on the College of Visible Arts, Korea Nationwide College of Arts. She has just lately exhibited at Artwork Sonje Heart in Seoul and at Frieze’s gallery on Cork Avenue, London.
