UK Government Drops Plan to Launch NFT With Royal Mint

The U.Okay. authorities has confirmed that it isn’t continuing with a plan to launch a non-fungible token (NFT). British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak requested the Royal Mint to create an “NFT for Britain” whereas he was serving because the Chancellor of the Exchequer final 12 months as a part of his efforts to make the U.Okay. a worldwide hub for crypto-asset know-how and funding.

Britain Drops NFT Plan

Parliament Member Harriett Baldwin, chair of the Home of Commons Treasury Choose Committee and a member of the NATO Parliamentary Meeting, requested the Chancellor of the Exchequer “whether or not it stays the coverage of his division that the Royal Mint subject a non-fungible token.” Wholly owned by His Majesty’s Treasury, the Royal Mint is the official mint of the U.Okay. and the maker of British cash.

Responding to Baldwin’s query on Monday, Financial Secretary to the Treasury Andrew Griffith said:

In session with HM Treasury, the Royal Mint shouldn’t be continuing with the launch of a non-fungible token at the moment however will maintain this proposal below overview.

Rishi Sunak, the present prime minister, requested the Royal Mint to create an “NFT for Britain” in April final 12 months whereas he was serving because the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The mission was a part of his ambition to make the U.Okay. a “international hub for crypto-asset know-how and funding.”

Commenting on the cancellation of the federal government’s NFT mission, Baldwin stated: “We now have not but seen plenty of proof that our constituents needs to be placing their cash in these speculative tokens until they’re ready to lose all their cash … So maybe that’s the reason the Royal Mint has made this choice along side the Treasury.”

Parliament Member Tulip Siddiq welcomed the choice to drop the NFT mission. “I’m glad that the Royal Mint has lastly made the Conservatives see sense, however we’ve been calling on the Chancellor to drop this crypto gimmick for months,” she detailed, emphasizing:

This out-of-touch authorities needs to be centered on the price of dwelling disaster, not losing time and taxpayers’ cash on an NFT vainness mission and selling dodgy stablecoins.
