Rand Abdul Jabbar wins the second Richard Mille Art Prize

The Iraqi-born, Abu Dhabi-based artist Rand Abdul Jabbar has been named the winner of the second Richard Mille Artwork Prize. She was awarded the $60,000 prize in a lavish ceremony on the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the place an exhibition of labor by the ten shortlisted artists additionally occurred.

Abdul Jabbar was born in Baghdad and moved to Abu Dhabi aged 5. After learning structure at Columbia College in New York, she returned to Abu Dhabi, the place she continues to stay and work.

That is the second 12 months of the prize, which is organised by the Louvre Abu Dhabi with the watchmakers Richard Mille. Open to artists throughout the Gulf area, it goals to “assist the thrilling and richly nuanced native artwork scenes which can be thriving within the Gulf and assist share their creativity with the world,” says Peter Harrison, chief government of Richard Mille EMEA. The primary winner of the prize was Nasser Alzayani.

The open name for the subsequent prize will begin from 30 March—the theme will probably be ‘transparency’.
